Viking 3 Series vs Professional: Which Line Is Right for You?
Viking offers both 3 Series and Professional (5/7 Series) appliances. Understanding the real differences helps you choose wisely and maintain correctly.

Viking manufactures two main appliance tiers: the 3 Series for accessible luxury and the Professional Series (including 5 and 7 Series) for maximum performance. The differences go beyond price.
Burner power is the most notable distinction. Viking Professional ranges feature up to 23,000 BTU sealed burners with VariSimmer capability, allowing precise control from a gentle 300 BTU simmer to searing heat. The 3 Series tops out around 18,000 BTU.
Oven systems differ as well. Professional Series ovens use Viking TruConvec convection with a rear-mounted fan and dedicated heating element for even heat distribution. The 3 Series uses a standard convection system that works well but lacks the same precision.
Construction materials and gauge differ between lines. Professional Series uses heavier-gauge stainless steel with more robust hinge mechanisms, thicker grates, and commercial-style controls. The 3 Series uses quality materials but prioritizes a slightly lighter construction.
From a repair perspective, both lines share many common components, keeping parts availability high for either series. However, Professional Series control boards and some specialized components like VariSimmer valves are specific to those models.
For Scottsdale homeowners who entertain frequently, cook complex meals, or simply want the full Viking experience, the Professional Series is the clear choice. For vacation homes, casitas, or kitchens where cooking is less intensive, the 3 Series delivers Viking quality at a more accessible investment.
Regardless of which series you own, both benefit from annual maintenance in our desert climate. The core systems — gas delivery, ignition, convection, and refrigeration — require the same type of professional attention.
Our technicians are trained on every Viking line and model generation. Whether you have a brand-new 7 Series or a classic Professional range from the 1990s, we have the expertise and parts access to keep it running.
